The real truth about penis size!

This penis size survey was conducted in May and June 2003 by The-penis.com.com - a website devoted to male sexuality and sexual health. Only entries from men over 16 years of age were taken into account when completing the survey, and any obvious errors, discrepancies, duplicate entries and anomalies were excluded. We believe the results are a very accurate picture of penis size in modern man! 

Men were asked to measure the length of their soft penis along the top surface from where the penis meets the body to the tip of the glans with the foreskin pushed back. They were asked to wrap a piece of string around the thickest part of the penis shaft, and to measure the length of the string with a ruler.

A similar process was requested for the erect penis. If a man had an erect penis that had a significant bend in it, he was asked to measure it using a piece of string and establish the length of the string with a ruler. For the erect penis girth, two measurements were requested, one around the head of the penis and one around the thickest part of the shaft.

*Circumcision differences

Though the frequency of circumcision is falling, it is still more common in the USA than Europe. Among European males, the percentage of men in the survey who reported being circumcised was only 30% compared to 64.5% of American men. This is across all age groups. 

Racial differences in penis size

Well, you may be wondering by now what our survey revealed about the differences between men of different races. The interesting thing is that everything you ever heard is true - though maybe not as true as you heard! In other words, blacks are indeed larger than whites, but on average only by half an inch. Similarly, whites are larger than Asians, but gain by an average of half an inch. The origin of the mythology of the black penis seems to lies in the fact that there are a larger number of black men with a huge penis than there are whites, but overall the average size is not that much different.

Expansion on erection

There's an old distinction between those men who are "showers" and those who can be called "growers". The growers are the ones who have a penis that's rather small when it's soft, perhaps even tiny, maybe even one of those penises where the penile shaft is invisible when it's at rest. But when it becomes erect, the penis assumes a much larger length and girth than you would ever expect.  A shower, on the other hand, is likely to expand much less when he becomes erect - and some showers penises around the six inch mark actually just get hard, they don't expand in length at all. 

Its true that the smaller a penis is when it's soft the more it's likely to expand when it gets erect. You can find more statistics on this at The-penis.com. But the moral of the story is that if you're a man with a small penis, you may actually be just as big when you're erect as the guy with the massive tool standing next to you in the locker room!

If you're a guy with a small penis, it's likely to have been one of the bigger challenges of your life. We seem to associate masculinity with the size of a guy's penis - a spurious assumption in every way. But it can be hard on a guy (no pun intended!) who finds at puberty that his penis doesn't grow in the way that his fellow schoolmates' penises do. After all, many societies of adolescent men like to show off their sexual assets, and the curiosity of the growing teenage boy is such that anyone who doesn't want to take part in these show and compare sessions can become the focus of some very unwanted attention.

What it all revealed

More than 1500 men measured their penis and this is what they came up with:

1) When flaccid i.e. non erect

The average length of a white male penis is around 3.4 inches

And the wrap around measurement, the circumference, or as you may sometimes see it called, "the girth", is about 3.9 inches

2) And by contrast, the measurements when a guy is hard were as follows:

Median or average length from base to tip of glans with an erection was 5.9 inches

And the wrap around measurement was a shade under 5.0 inches 

The figures which are given as averages are in fact medians. 

3) Where is a penis most thick?

From a woman's point of view, the best place for a man to have thickness in his penis would be around the glans, so that she felt that delicious sense of penetration most clearly (unless she has a problem with penetration, which some women do). 

As you may know if you happen to have seen many erect penises, the shape of the erect penis is very different from one man to another. In some men it tapers from a thick base to a thin point, while in others it takes the shape of a regular cigar. Some men's penises have a bulbous head; other do not.
